Dipolog: Mixture of Cultural and Nature Activities

Dipolog City is the capital of Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines. Wild orchids are often seen in its lands, thus, earning the title “Orchid City of the South.” Dipolog like other places in the Philippines is a favorite tourist location because of several activities expected to encounter in the area.

The most popular activity is the “Sinulog sa Dipolog” Festival. The festival is celebrated every third week of January. It wants to show how Christianity and the local practices and traditions have been blended together and kept alive.

Sinulog is the tribute when Dipolog’s local settlers and tribes turn aside their pagan ways and embraced Christianity. The event is marked by a whole day of tireless street dancing and by a procession for Santo Nino, the child Jesus.

Dakak is a famous beach for Filipino and foreign travelers because of its beautiful beach, multi-colored coral reefs and attractive colorful fishes under water. The beach resort offers diving activities to all tourists and provides basic and advance lessons in diving.

Liuay Rock is another famous dive site in Philippines which is situated in Dipolog. Starfishes, enchanting corals, and different kinds of underwater creatures can be seen in the area. It is safe for beginners because it is not too deep.

The Mushroom Wall is also a famous destination for diving activities. Its depth is about ten feet, thus, the scenery underwater includes the hard and soft corals, beautiful fishes and alluring rock ledge. Also, the dive site is near the city.

Visiting the 3003 Steps in Linabo Peak.

Linabo peak has the highest altitude in Dipolog which measured above sea level to be 486 meters. The 3,003 steps are concrete encircling along a tunnel that leads to the anticipated peak. It is worth noting that the Fourteen Stations of the Cross are passed by during the trip. Activities that can be done here are making one’s way up to the peak, praying and reflecting the Fourteen Stations and contemplating in the community’s chapel found at the top. Bathing in Sungkilaw Falls

If a tourist can feel the tropic climate of the Philippines, Sungkilaw Falls is one of the recommended spots in Dipolog where one can take a swim and bathe. The falls is located in the barangay of Diwan. The falls is strikingly beautiful and the water is cool and fresh since it flows from the mountains. One will really feel being with nature because of the majestic view in the area.
