How To Add A User To The DHCP Users Group

In this article you’ll learn how to assign users to the DHCP Users on Windows Server 2003 operating system. In some cases, specific users of your network may need a read-only access to the DHCP MMC in order to read DHCP data, but not change it. If so, then you may add them to the group of DHCP Users and not to the group of DHCP Administrators. It is an easy task, and you can achieve it by following these steps:

Step 1: If DHCP service is installed like a member server of the Active Directory domain, then open Computer Management. To open the window of the Computer Management MMC (Microsoft Management Console), click on Start, then click on Control panel, double-click on Administrative Tools, and then click on Computer Management.

Step 2: In the tree structure of the console, click on Management of the computer (local).

Step 3: Click on System Tools.

Step 4: Click on Local Users and Groups.

Step 5: In the information area, double-click on Groups, and then click on DHCP users.

Step 6: In the Action menu, click on Properties.

Step 7: Under the General tab, click on Add. The dialog box “Select Users” opens.

Step 8: In the area “Enter the names of objects to select”, enter the name of the user to be added as a DHCP user, and then click on OK. To add several users in only one operation, type the names of the users separated by semicolons, and then click on OK.

The group of DHCP users offers you a means of granting a read-only access of the DHCP MMC console to the DHCP service. All the members of the DHCP Users group have the right to display, and not to modify, the data of the current DHCP server in DHCP MMC console.
