How To Define The DHCP Server Bindings

The bindings of the DHCP server are activated and deactivated on per-connections and not on per IP address. All the DHCP server bindings are a function of first configured IP address for each connection present Network Connections folder. If additional static IP address were configured for the current network connection, then DHCP servers running on Windows Server 2003 operating system will never use these IP addresses. Read the instructions below in order to define the DHCP server binding in a selective way for network connections:

Step 1: Click on Start, click on Settings, click on Control Panel, double-click on Administrative Tools, and then double-click on DHCP in order to open the DHCP MMC console. The DHCP console is an administrative tool for managing DHCP servers.

Step 2: In the tree structure of the console, click on DHCP

Step 3: Click on a valid DHCP server.

Step 4: In the Action menu, click on Properties.

Step 5: Click on the Advanced tab.

Step 6: Click on Bindings.

Step 7: In the dialog box “Bindings”, for the list of Connections and server bindings, enable or disable the check boxes for any statically configured network connections that must be activated or deactivated to be used at the appropriate DHCP.

Step 8: Click on OK.

Step 9: Under the Advanced tab, click on Apply.

Keep in mind that if more than one IP address are configured for a network card interface, then only the first configured address is used or affected by the DHCP server bindings. All the additional IP addresses configured cannot be configured or used for DHCP server bindings. In addition, the service of DHCP on windows Server 2003 operating system never establishes bindings to any wide area network (WAN) connection or to any network connections being DHCP-enabled server device. This is why these connections do not appear in the dialog box “Bindings”.
