How To Prepare A Wall For Plastering
so you might want to know tips on how to plaster a wall, maybe you would like to have a go yourself? nicely for those who are brave enough when you commence plastering a wall you need to ensure your peperation it accomplished correctly.
Also you’ll need to know what type of background you might be plastering on wheather it’s plasterboard, painted wall, or artex what you may learn it that what i’m explaining for the walls applys to ceilings as well.
Plasterboard background
This is the easyiest backgound to prepare as all you need to do is be certain that the screw’s are effectively screwed in so the board has no movement.
Then the other thing you’ll need to do is make sure you scrim all of the joints, what exactly is scrim? its a self adeshive tape which sticks over the joints you can purchase this from any developing merchant.
and that is it your prepared to go.
Painted walls
I would just like to mention that if you have wallpaper on your walls then it all has to come off and I mean all of it even the tiny bits left right after you’ve taken it off.
so back to your painted walls or walls that have all of the wallpaper off you’ll need to have some P.V.A glue to can obtain this from and constructing merchants like wickes or B&Q to get the idea,
So once you have your P.V.A glue you need to pour some of it into a bucket, I use them small black buckets you find in wickes, pour a quarter into the bucket and add some water to thin it down.
Mix the water in well and now use a roller and give your wall a coat of P.V.A be sure you cover every bit of the wall, as soon as you may have finished go back to the begining and see if the wall is bone dry if it is then I would put one more coat on it, if it still quite wet then one coat will do wait intill the wall is dry and you might be prepared to commence plastering your wall.
Artex walls
My favorute (NOT). Right first off you need to use a scrapper and scrap all the high pionts off so you could get it as flat as you are able to, do not use a wallpaper scraper you use to take wallpaper off this will not do it you need a big badboy with about a 6 ince width razor blade it is possible to get these in wickes or your local D.I.Y place.
Wear a Mask when doing this soon after you may have finished P.V.A your walls like I mentioned above.
And that’s about it, so now you know the right way to prepare a wall for plastering.
