Internet Marketing for Website Promotion

If you have a website, you definitely need to be marketing it if you want it to be anything more than just a dead end on the Internet. There is nothing difficult about marketing online, it just requires that you know a few things to do it right.

Although the term “Internet Marketing” has been associated with scammers and con artists, it’s really a legitimate way to market any business that is online. As with any endeavor, you just need to know the basics.

Great Content, Always

Content is King, so above all else, make sure yours is near-perfect. There are two things that all good content on a website should have: a clear and concise purpose and a well-written and delivered message.
If your content is meant to sell, it should have a strong, action-oriented feel and a direct call to action for the reader: “buy this.” If your website is meant to be informative, then each section should be directed at a clear subject and should be well-written to convey the information without a lot of empty words or “fluff.”

Make the Search Engines Work for You

Using keywords and keyphrases in the right proportions can benefit almost any website. This is search engine optimization (SEO). If you do nothing else to get the attention of search engines, do this. Ranking higher in search engines is based on SEO. An optimal density of 3% to 4% is the best way to spread your words and phrases while keeping the information human-readable.

Many marketers focus so much on SEO that they ignore the humans who will be reading their site. This violates the first step in this series and can ruin a website.

Use Social Media

Social media has emerged as the newest and most effective low-cost advertising method online. Twitter, Facebook, etc. can all bring you powerful traffic if used correctly. You cannot just dump your website link and product information onto these social streams, of course. Instead, build a strong (and reactive) social network by giving value.
Value does not mean freebies or discounts, though that can help. Instead, it means giving quality information, helping people who have questions, and sharing information that is useful and meaningful to others. Promoting products may or may not come as a direct sideline while you’re giving value. Your profile should link clearly to your website and brand, doing your advertising for you. Promoting your own products once in a while is OK too, of course, just not all the time.

These three things will take most websites from the unknown to the well known in a relatively short amount of time. Of course, nothing happens overnight and for free, but steadily building your site marketing’s core foundation like this will build it up on solid footing.
