Research Article Writing - A How-to Guide That Is Useful

1. Topic. Although most topics for research articles are assigned, there are times that you’ll be given a chance to choose the topics that you would like to explore. If this is the case, I highly recommend that you choose carefully and pick a topic that you know really, really well. This is something that you can do to make the whole process a bit easier for you.

2. Research. Conducting extensive research is something that is non-negotiable in this endeavor. Start by checking out offline resources that contain complete and reliable information about your chosen topic. Avoid using the internet as this contains a lot of unverified information. It will also help if you find and interview experts who can surely offer you with valuable information.

3. Target interesting, explosive angles. While doing your research, figure out the best angles that you can target on your articles. Ensure that they’re eye-catching and downright interesting. This is to make your research articles more valuable to the eyes of your target audience.

4. Plan ahead. Plan and organize your material before you start writing. List down the possible titles that you might be able to use and the information that you’re going to discuss on each of your chapters. Ensure that your outline contains complete and detailed information as this is the key to produce research articles that are content-rich and highly informative.

5. Start your article with a compelling research question. This is very important as this will help you make your article focused and will help you limit the scope of your content early on. Clueless as to what research question you’re going to use? Then, just ask yourself the things that you would like to prove.

6. Choose your titles. After writing your research question, it will become a lot easier for you to write your title. Ensure that it’s very descriptive and eye-catching. Remember, your title must summarize the content of your article; it should give your target audience a clear idea as to what kind of information they can expect to get from your copy.

7. Writing format. Unlike web and magazine articles, research articles follow different format. Before you start writing, get to know what is acceptable by reading relevant traditional books and by getting guides online. It will also help if you read sample research articles so you’ll get an idea.

8. Keep your articles focused. Avoid inserting irrelevant information on your articles so you will not confuse your readers. Stick with your main topic and ensure that every data you present in your article is closely related to it.

9. Offer complete information. Strive to offer your readers with complete, detailed information so you can effectively educate them. Do not leave any stone unturned when doing your research and present all the information that your readers need to know in a very easy to understand manner.

10. Proofread. This is the best way to end the process. Read your research articles out loud and check them for any error that can affect the reading experience of your readers.
